Word of the Day
A daily verse. A short reflection. A moment of peace — shared with your church, your way.
"Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."
Peace That Doesn't Wait for Answers
Anxiety rarely waits for a convenient moment. It shows up in the middle of the night, in a difficult conversation, in the space between sending a message and waiting for a reply. Paul wrote these words from a prison cell — not from a place of comfort, but from real uncertainty. And still, he says: don't be anxious about anything. Not because the situation isn't serious, but because there is somewhere to bring it.
What's striking is the specific instruction: by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving. Not just prayer alone — thanksgiving alongside it. It's easy to bring God our requests. It's harder to bring gratitude in the same breath, especially when the outcome is still unknown. But this is exactly the posture that makes room for peace: naming what's wrong, and still holding onto what's good.
The peace promised here isn't the peace of having all the answers. It "transcends understanding" — meaning it doesn't depend on the situation being resolved. It guards the heart while the situation is still unfolding. That's the peace worth asking for today: not the absence of hard things, but a steadiness that holds even in the middle of them.
Lord, You already know what's weighing on me today. I don't fully understand how to let it go, but I trust that Your peace doesn't require me to have all the answers first. Guard my heart. Guard my mind. Help me hold my worries with open hands, and my gratitude close. Amen.
